Luxor Trip
I left the hotel (from now famous Sunrise Mamlouk Palace) right about 5:50 in the morning with a minibus until Safaga, which is at about 20-30 km from the hotel, there we moved on a bus. The toad to Luxor was not very long, we arrived about 10:30 am. The guide said that we should be leaving Luxor at 5:30 pm, and if we were late people over there would force us to stay overnight. I think about my safety, they don’t look to hospitable.
Here we went alone, without a tail. The road us undoubtedly much shorter than in Cairo, but still lasted long enough because they don’t have highways to Luxor, there were plenty filters, in addition the path crosses through some mountains and it is quite winding.
Along the road you can see the poverty from Egypt, villages with unpaved streets, hut over hut, but with antennas, etc.
We had the first important stop at Valley of the Kings, the ticket 85 LE. From the gate they take you 200 meters away with a titi-car. Here we had to leave our cameras in the bus, because it is forbidden to record. I think this can be fixed with some tip but I didn’t felt like trying. Here in Valley of the Kings we had the right to visit 3 tombs, one of Ramses the 1st, one of Ramses the 9th and another one. If you wanted to visit Tutankamon’das tomb it was 100 LE.
The tomb of Ramses 1st was the most steep and small, inside we had the opportunity to do sauna for free. Here were the best preserved drawings, where you could notice their original colour. Inside the tomb the biggest stop everyone would take was in front of a ventilator. At the 3rd tomb that we visited, the one at which I forgot the name, because it was actually made from 2 tombs, besides the drawing you could look with your flashlight, which was offered by one of their own, inside the vault where you could see pet’s, etc.
I must emphasize that at that time were 39 Celsius degrees and the guide told us that this is ok because last week were about 48 degrees.
The second stop was at an alabaster workshop, where it was introduced to us the short process and we had spare time to buy different statues.
After that we went to Hatchepsut’s temple, she was the first female pharaoh from Egypt’s history. The temple is carved in stone, I enjoyed it, here the ticket was about 35 LE.
In Luxor we crossed the Nile with little boats to get to a restaurant then we visited the Colossi from Memnon, which are 2 great statues, there is nothing to do there more than 2 or 3 minutes, you stop only to take a couple of photos.
Then the journey in Luxor area continues with the Temple from Karnak, an impressive place by surface and size. Here the ticket is about 60 LE, I don’t really remember. I have some doubts that the drawings on the walls are the original ones, even greater doubts, because you can practically touch them and I doubt that someone would let thousands of years old things to deteriorate like that. From time to time you may see autographs left by a Hindi.
The last stop was at a papyrus workshop where they show us the process and we have to put out the Egyptian currency to receive a souvenir.
We manage to fit the time and around 5 o’clock pm we go back to the palace.
